David
Tomàs is one of the most internationally renowned bassoon players and pedagogs
of his Generation. Born in Barcelona studied in Stuttgart (Germany) under
Sergio Azzolini. He has been solo
bassoon
with the Gustav-Mahler Jugendorchester conducted by Claudio Abbado and Riccardo
Chailly.
He has
been first bassoon of the Spanish Radio Orchestra in Madrid and the Orquesta
Sinfónica de Castilla y León. As principal bassoon with the Deutsche
Kammerphilarmonie Bremen, he has worked with musicians such as Heinz Holliger,
András Schiff, Frans Brüggen, Murray Perahia and Gidon Kremer and performed in
the world’s leading concert halls. With Sir Neville Marriner and the Orquestra de
Cadaqués, he recorded the Mozart Bassoon Concerto and the Sinfonia Concertante.
David Tomas has been invited as principal bassoon in several orchestras like
Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Gustav Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Chamber
Orchestra, NDR Orchestra Hannover, ... as far as chamber music is concerned, he
has played with musicians such as Klaus Thunemann, Thomas Indermühle, Dag
Jensen and Radovan Vlatkovic.
He has
taught at the Hochschule für Künste of Bremen, at the Conservatorio Superior of
Salamanca and at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, in Barcelona, the
Folkwang Hochschule of
Music in
Essen (Germany) and the High Center of Music of the Basque Country (Musikene).
In 2012 David Tomas was named Professor for Bassoon at the Hochschule für Musik
Karlsruhe.
David
Tomas is also invited as soloist or as chamber music partner by festivals like
Oaxaca (Mexico), Schubertiade Schwarzenberg (Austria), Rio de Janeiro (Brasil)
, Oporto (Portugal) and IDRS Meeting 2018 in Granada, playing the world
prémiere of the Bassoon Concerto by Salvador Brotons.

teacher David Tomas has visited Conservatories like Sibelius-Academy Helsinki,
Oporto, Braga, Cordoba (Argentina), Geneva, Lausanne, Gran Canaria, Krakow, Rio
de Janeiro, Natal, Istanbul,
Trapani (Sicilia), etc…
In 2002
and 2009 he was invited to be a member of the jury for the ARD International
Bassoon Competition in Munich. Following his succesful debut as a conductor, he
has been invited to conduct
and prepare the wind sections of symphony orchestras and wind ensembles.
